Sole Design, Motion, Storyboard

Senses Series began with a frustration that anyone who has worked in a specialist agency will recognise. It can be easy to rely on the status quo, keep churning out the same solutions without much creative muscle involved. This was Remedy Edge’s answer to that, a programme designed to take a group of us out of the office and into something that had nothing to do with advertising, once a term, built around one of the senses.

I was the sole designer across every touchpoint, from the email series that built anticipation before each session, to the video that served as the Creative Floor Awards submission. Each session has taken the group somewhere different: the Tutankhamun exhibition for intuition, a soundbath at the Barbican for hearing, and Landers 23 to push the boundaries of perception. Taste is next.

The Story Behind This Project

Senses Series is still going, which is the most honest measure of whether it worked. What started as a creative director's response to agency life feeling a little too corporate has become an ongoing programme with a genuine following inside the studio. On average fifteen to thirty people attend each session voluntarily, which for an extracurricular in a busy agency is quietly remarkable.

"Sometimes the most important creative brief is the one nobody gave you."

The video, developed for the Creative Floor Awards submission, was a project in its own right. I developed the storyboard and saw it through to completion, turning what could have been a simple documentation piece into something that captured the spirit of the whole programme. The shortlisting confirmed what the attendance figures already suggested: this was work worth making.
